Be Verb

'Be Verb' is a very important grammatical item for learning English. If you are confused about from what grammatical item you should start learning English, I will say that you should learn this grammatical item at the very beginning.

Ok,

'Be Verb'

'Be' means to become, not to do anything.

If you can understand ' Do Verb', the concept of 'Be Verb' will certainly be clear.

Then,

What is a 'Do Verb'?

A 'Do Verb' is a verb that indicates doing or performing something, such as, Play, Learn, Speak, Go, Come, Walk, etc.

So, when these types of verbs are not in the sentences, 'Be Verbs' will be there.

If I say,

I am a student. Here, there is no Do verb

Here, there is no' Do Verb' here.

If you would like to know more, you can watch this class,

If I say, " The man honest", it seems to be correct in sense and the sentence is not a problem to understand. But, the problem is that an English sentence requires a verb according to the grammar of English language. The word' Man' in the sentence is not 'doing' anything and so, there is no doing in the sentence. It means that there is no "Do verb" in the sentence. Since there is no 'doing' in the sentence, there should be 'being' in the sentence because a verb is actually needed.

There can be thousands of examples with 'Be Verb'.

'Be' means am/is/ are/ - was/ were- been.

'Be' is a peculiar verb in the sense that 'Be' is itself a present form and 'am/is / are' are also present forms.

Now,

the question is when & where to use which present form.

The answer is,

Look at the sentence ' I want to am a good student'.

In this sentence, the word ' am ' is unexpected here because the 'be' is the origin of 'Be verb' and an infinitive always takes the origin.

But, if I say,

'I be a good man',

In spite of being the present form, the word 'be ' is not appropriate because

' am/is/are/' can be present forms but 'Be' is an origin

verb.
